Directions to Bristol Cathedral Choir School, College Square, Bristol BS1 5TS
Our one-day Limmud was held in two modern wings, the Cresswell Centre and The Parsonage, of this historic school whose original building dates back to the 13th century. The school is located close to the centre of Bristol within easy reach of public transport and many interesting landmarks.
If driving into central Bristol, there are sort of (recently introduced) one-way systems in central Bristol.
There is no parking on the school site, except for a few spaces for Disabled Parking Badge holders. Please email us or use the contact form on this website if you want to reserve one of these spaces.
Day long parking is available at:
Millennium Square Car Park, BS1 5LL – £12 up to 8 hours, £14 up to 12 hours
Trenchard Street Car Park BS1 5A – £12 over four hours
Millennium Square Car Park is slightly closer to Cathedral School. Trenchard Street Car Park is slightly cheaper for over 8 hours; from it, you walk downhill to the school, uphill back.
Trenchard Street Car Park is opposite Park Row Synagogue. If you’re visiting the synagogue after the day’s sessions, you might consider it preferable to leave your car there during the day. You’ll walk to the synagogue; and just go across the road after the visit.
Driving from the north (M5/M4) or from the west or the east (M4)
Exit at Junction 19 of the M4 on to the M32 southbound. Come to the end of the M32 and, turning right, follow the brown visitor signs towards the city Centre and We The Curious Science Museum. You will pass the Bristol Aquarium on the left and can turn left at Millennium Square for that Car Park.
If going to Trenchard Street Car Park, turn right from the city Centre up Park Street. At the T junction (third set of traffic lights) turn right, keep in the middle lane to turn left.At the sort of roundabout with the Victoria Rooms ahead, continue round as if you were going back down Park Street. At the traffic lights just before the top of Park Street – just past the University of Bristol Wills Building – keep in the left hand lane. The entrance to Trenchard Street Car Park is along a lane about 200 yards past those traffic lights.
From Millenium Square Car Park walk towards and past We The Curious to the main road (Anchor Road), which you cross. Turn left and look for College Square on your right, with signage for Bristol Cathedral Choir School and Limmud Bristol SW.
From Trenchard Street Car Park, go to the ground floor exit, opposite the back of Bristol’s Colston Hall. Walk down the road at the side of the Hall to the city Centre. Turn right and walk towards Bristol Hippodrome. From there, follow the directions under Public Transport, below.
Driving from the south (M5)
Exit at Junction 18 of the M5 and follow signs to the city Centre, signposted A4,driving along The Portway. You will come in along the river. After you go under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, keep in the left hand lane and follow the city Centre signs. After a “dog leg” road turn, you will see the SS Great Britain across the river, on your right. At the roundabout continue to follow A4 signs. Turn right into Millennium Square for that Car Park.
If going to Trenchard Street Car Park, continue to the set of traffic lights at the top of a sort of slip road. Keep in the left hand lane; and at the lights turn right up Park Street. After that, it’s the same directions as above (at the end of Driving from the north …. ).
From Bristol Temple Meads Station, take a number 8, 9, 70, 72 or 73 bus. They do have different routes – all short, all roughly the same amount of time – into the city Centre (it’s called that). Which is where you want to get off your bus. From whichever bus stop you’re at, find the Bristol Hippodrome. Facing the Bristol Hippodrome, turn left. Walk towards the road going uphill (Park Street); and at College Green turn left towards Bristol (Anglican) Cathedral. Past the Cathedral turn left through the arch next to the Central Library, and after a few yards, as you look right, you should see our signage for Limmud Bristol SW.
There are also plenty of taxis at Bristol Temple Meads Station. If taking a taxi, ask to be dropped off at College Square, which is opposite the Science Museum “We The Curious” (formerly called @Bristol).
Or enjoy a 25 minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads Station. Be aware that there are major road works near the station which you will have to navigate around to reach any route into the city Centre (this being Bristol, there are several ways you could walk, all taking the same time.)
